Melissa, I totally agree with using art as a relaxation technique. A few times a year I battle insomnia for a couple days at a time. When sleep is difficult, I get out of bed, head to my desk and sketch with pen and ink or colored pencils. Paying attention to the details of the shading and mixing colors is tremendously helpful in replacing the non-stop thoughts in my mind. After an hour or so, I return to bed and sleep like a log. The next morning I enjoy looking at my drowsy drawings.
