Good points, Matt. I forgot all about consignment shops. They are great for getting rid of great clothes that can make you a buck or two. Places like Good Will still have the benefit of a tax deduction, and the even greater benefit of knowing that you are helping others in some small way. I encourage everyone to drop off their unwanted items there, as I frequently go thrift shopping. Maybe I will unknowingly swap clothes with some of our readers by shopping there!!

I totally agree, Janel. Cleaning out the closets and drawers is a great feeling. Still, many people have a tough time getting started. To overcome the hardship of giving up possessions, it helps to know other benefits of purging your junk. First, you can possibly make a little bit of money. If clothes are in good condition I would encourage the readers to take them to Buffalo Exchange. Check out www.buffaloexchange.com. They buy, sell, and trade used clothing. Also, there is definitely money to be made from www.craigslist.com when cleaning out the attic and basement. Additionally, donating your dust collecting goods to a good organization can be extremely helpful to people.
